STONE CONSERVATION: SANDSTONE
Private House
A collection of 17th century sandstone sculptures by Samuel Watson and Caius Gabriel Cibber. The conservation work involved delicate surface cleaning, the removal of old corroding iron cramps and previous failing restorations as well as reassembling loose fragments/details. The sculptures also received extensive lime mortar repairs.
The photos show some details of before and after cleaning, pinning and grouting of loose fragments, removal of complex failing fixings and details of lime repairs.
