PLASTER CONSERVATION

Decorative Jacobean plaster

Conservation to a decorative Jacobean plaster ceiling in a private house.

This work involved the conservation to a Jacobean decorative plaster ceiling in a private house near Stamford, Lincs.

The ceiling had suffered historic movement due to the heavy slate roof. The surface plaster detail required removing old localised repairs and exchanging them for more appropriate lime/ hair mortars, grouting and surface consolidation.

The whole ceiling was finished with two coats of soft distemper. The photos show details of the condition of the ceiling and areas of repair.
