PAINTING CONSERVATION

Bury St Edmunds Church

19th century oil painting on metal cleaning, revealing over-paint, painting and gilding.

During the course of history the painting had suffered from water damage, extensive restorations with unsympathetic unsightly old varnishes and naive retouching and over-painting.

The whole surface area was been cleaned and consolidated with areas of over-paint being removed to reveal details of original decoration. Damaged areas were touched in and minor regarding works carried out.
